Mercedes-Benz's practical and quick GLC-Class SUV has been one of its top-selling models for years. For 2023, a redesigned version of the popular compact luxury crossover kicks off its second generation (or third if you count the GLK). Sharing a platform with the GLC Coupe and C-Class, the 2023 GLC slots above the GLB and below the GLE in price and size in Mercedes' SUV lineup.

What We Think

The previous generation GLC-Class SUV is a capable little family hauler, with the 2020 GLC300 able to beat most of its rivals in a drag race and provide satisfying quickness and agility. Its cabin is built to a high standard, but we had a frustrating time with the infotainment system. The last generation GLC also missed several features that many of its less-expensive rivals provide standard, and its cargo area was not as spacious.

The new one is a noticeable improvement, boasting more cabin and cargo space. In our GLC First Test, we praised the new SUV for its generous list of standard features and impressive feature-per-dollar value. Every 2023 GLC300 has smart key access, an 11.9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, automatic emergency front braking, blind-spot monitoring, a power liftgate, a sunroof, and heated seats. Our tester was also incredibly quiet on the road. We do, however, disapprove of the 2023 model's dearth of physical controls, as everything goes through the touchscreen. Overall, though, the GLC proves that luxury can still be attained at a fair price.
